I’m not really good in calculate, especially when I totally have no idea about what should I calculate. This assignment make me fell I’m hitting something. Although I finish them all, I think I have to do more practice like this.

    the Drawing Robot 101 !

Posted in Green Pill on July 3, 2006 by discoverykid

    Robot
I hack one of the candy toys bought from K-Mart. The part contents both gears and spring. I mix it with an eraser, pushpin and a 2B lead into a Drawing Robot.

I use pushpin to adjust the weight of the lead. In the very beginning, the robot couldn’t draw a very stable line.
    –>[ video after click ] draw 01
mov After I add a couple of pushpins on the eraser part, the line draw by the robot looks more stable.
    –>[ video after click ] draw 01
For the final test, I use just 2 pushpins for holding the lead to close to the gear. The robot can draw a spiral-like pattern in a twirl way, now.
    –>[ video after click ] draw 03

It’s really weird, if I put the “void setup(){}” and “void draw(){}” in my code, it wont draw correctly. For the 2nd, 3rd and the last one, I’m still not sure how to code it in a good way.

  • A look back:

I was forced to go to the piano lessons by my dearest parents when I was three years old. It wasn’t a pleasant experience at all especially the huge and cold instrument was two times my height at that time.

Therefore, I am thinking about creating a sampling toy instrument for kids. With no distress, through tapping and twisting the instrument, anyone can combine the fixed timbre. Once his interest is aroused, he can even choose to try out the higher version one, which allows him to fetch the samples and combine the sounds together as he whishes.

Suppose this toy instrument invigorates his interest in music, he eventually becomes serious and is willing to know more about it starting from learning the classical music.

    – this is what I wrote when applying to ITP at the end of the year 2004.
